About Steinaker Lake State Park
Steinaker Lake State Park is located 7 miles (11km) to the north of Vernal, Utah.
Opened to the public in 1964, Steinaker Lake State Park is enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year. Sitting at an elevation of 5,500 feet or 1,700 meters above sea level. The park is located in northeastern Utah just south of the Unita Mountains. Situated in a dry and arid climate.
Plantlife & Wildlife
With sweltering summers and cold winters, the park is home to very hearty vegetation such as juniper, sagebrush & cacti. But, It’s not just the plant life that is rugged. The park’s wildlife includes animals such as plant-eating badgers, deer, and rabbits as well as carnivores like bobcats & coyotes. The park is also home to several species of birds which include majestic creatures such as golden eagles, several species of hawks and osprey.
Park History
Like many areas named in this region, Steinaker State Park is named for a member of the Steinaker family, a pioneering family which settled the region.
The Steinaker Dam
Constructed between 1959 and 1962, The Steinaker Dam stands 162 feet high and extends nearly 2000 feet across forming the lake. The reservoir which is fed by nearby Ashley Creek and provides a constant stable water source into the reservoir.
Park Activities
While there are many activities you can enjoy within the park, it is primarily known for great fishing, boating & waterskiing and of course, swimming. If you don’t have a boat, don’t worry. There is a beautiful sandy beach that you can enjoy.

Within the park, there are more than 30 RV campsites in addition to two group-use pavilions.
